Zuzee

Designed for the Room No One Was Designing For

Zuzee was a startup with a limited budget and an ambitious idea - a wearable hardware and digital subscription platform designed specifically for tween girls, one of the most underserved demographics in consumer technology. Forge partnered with Zuzee to validate the concept, define the minimum viable product, and bring a genuinely new digital experience to market.

"It’s so easy to use. I love how I can rotate an image and layering other stickers and pictures. It’s a beautiful UI”.

Impact & Outcomes

Delivered an award-winning platform blending gaming, social networking, photo-sharing, and digital scrapbooking. Successfully bridged a significant market gap for tweens and their parents. Forge's recommendation to pivot from hardware-first to digital-first for launch proved correct - enabling faster market entry within Zuzee's budget constraints.

Challenge

Designing for tween girls required nuance, strategy, and real methodological care - this demographic is notoriously difficult to research well. The original concept involved wearable hardware paired with an online subscription platform, but budget constraints made the full vision undeliverable at launch. Forge needed to identify what was truly essential, what could wait, and how to enter the market in a way that validated the core concept without overextending a startup's resources.

Approach

Forge adopted a user-centred design approach grounded in lean startup principles. Extensive focus group sessions and rapid prototyping with tween users and their parents generated insights that challenged and refined the original concept. Interviewing kids required a deliberately nuanced, strategic approach - one that created space for honest feedback without leading participants. Forge identified the minimum distinctive feature set that could be built within budget and recommended a strategic pivot to a digital-first launch, deferring the hardware component until the core experience was validated.

Delivery

An award-winning digital platform that seamlessly blended gaming, social networking, photo-sharing, and digital scrapbooking for tweens - designed with equal care for the parents who would be approving and supervising use. Zuzee launched within budget with a product that addressed a genuine market gap and earned recognition for its design quality and user experience.
