Navigating Deep Waters
Contributing UI expertise in the co-creation of an interactive submarine scheduling concept software prototype
Client: RaceRocks / Babcock
Challenge
RaceRocks, a top 75 Canadian defense company, brought us in to collaborate with their client, Babcock, who provides engineering support for Canadian military, civil and commercial marine and aviation organizations. The project? Creating a submarine scheduling concept software prototype. This interactive Class Plan (iCP) visualization software product would allow users to modify key schedules, resources, and technical planning data to quickly visualize the impact of changes, enabling more informed business decisions. Although RaceRocks has best-in-class developers, they sought our expertise in UI/Usability to focus on visual design, client research, UI concepting, and front-end development.
Approach
Forge launched the project with stakeholder meetings to best grasp its exceptional scope. We navigated designing without solid requirements—a unique and considerable challenge. We focused on goals and established requirements as they arose, driven by Babcock's needs. Working with the RaceRocks’ Software Development Lead and CEO, we helped align the project with its goals and secure support for the prototype's development.
Impact
Forge successfully delivered an interactive user interface (UI) for Babcock's submarine scheduling software prototype, enhancing its overall usability and design. Babcock will leverage our work prioritizing user experience in alignment with their future projects and seek additional depth in their team to ensure successful outcomes. Each team’s positive attitude supported this complex project by each team’s positive attitude. Babcock also had an ease with Agile development and sprints, and the foresight to recognize what they didn’t know and seek out our expertise.
